So it has been just over a month into 2009. I am glad to say that I have thus far, held to my resolution of not buying anything new in 2009. I wish I had something profound to write about my experience, but I don’t. It hasn’t been that difficult though and I’ve also paid off some debt as well. I’m sure it will be a lot tougher now that I’ve gotten my tax return. It’s burning a huge hole in my pocket.

iWork ‘09
Posted in resolution on January 10, 2009 by bdaniel5So Apple has released iWork ‘09. It’s $79 and I’m not going to buy it in keeping with my resolution. I was checking it out thinking, this is neat. Then I started thinking that I really don’t use these products enough to buy the latest version and the iWork ‘10 version will probably be even better. Not to mention that I also have Office 2008 plus iWork ‘08, all my office sweet needs have been fully satisfied.
So that’s another $79 I saved and will not spend.

Posted in resolution with tags books, spending, tv on January 6, 2009 by bdaniel5Well it’s only been five full days since the New Year, but I thought I’d let everybody know that I have NOT broken my resolution. I found out about a new TV show called Legend of the Seeker based on the Terry Goodkind book series The Sword of Truth and I was very tempted to download the shows from iTunes at $2.99 + tax a pop. But I didn’t and just watched the shows on Hulu. Not the ideal situation, but it has saved me $21 so far. I think it might be a good idea to keep a running total of all the stuff I would normally buy without hesitation and don’t and the stuff that I’d probably buy after thinking about it a bit and see how much money I don’t waste this year.
